It's so crazy how your feelings can change so quickly for a pet. I never thought it was true, until it happened to me, and then a bunch of other new mommies told me it happened to them too. Dogs, cats, it doesn't matter. Fact is, BABY comes first, and Momma's instinct is FIERCE if something gets in the way.
I love my dog. Got him when he was 8 weeks old and not even 4 lbs! He's 6 years old now, and has been my baby all along.
Then, we brought M home.
Oliver, said dog, is EXTREMELY jealous. He was a momma's boy - can't blame him. But he is NOT in any way getting the hint that his actions are NOT okay. And I am dang near ready to KILL him. Seriously.
It has been 3 months of pure hell:
He has torn up ANYTHING he can find that is M-related. He has pooped and peed on the floor more times than I can count. He has peed on M's things more times than I care to count. He lunges at her when he gets near her (yes in an attacking way, not a curious, excited, friendly way), so we don't let him near her. He is ALWAYS creeping around, trying to get near her so he can lunge at her, so I always have to be on guard or lock him in his crate. If he's not creeping around trying to get to her, he's trying to get to another room, or her room, to piss or poop on something or tear something up.
Some things that aren't his fault but are almost equally annoying:
He barks as soon as she goes to sleep. This almost seems on purpose, it is timed that well. M is doing much better at night, so I have been getting to sleep in little intervals anyway. Oliver makes sure to interrupt this, by barking, coughing, shaking, whatever means possible.
My friend has told me he will take him in January. I am COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS. And after 6 good years together, I will not miss this dog. Sad, but true.
